Sutherland Dental Group has an excellent reputation when it comes to working with children. As with all of our patients, the approach we take is to ease young children into dental care. We work hard to provide a fun and happy atmosphere so that going to the dentist is a positive experience for a child. Using this approach, we find that many children look forward to their dental appointments.
Your child’s dental care begins at home with the coming of their first teeth. Ensure that you brush and floss your child’s teeth and that they eat a healthy diet.
The best time to begin your child’s formal dental care is around the age of three.
Here are some tips you can use to help make your child’s dental experience a positive one:
- Don’t talk about needles and fillings and keep talk about dental visits positive – children should be reminded that dental visits should be routine and ensure that teeth and gums stay in great shape.
- Ensure your child has had enough rest before an appointment – a tired child is more likely to react negatively if they are nervous.
- The more relaxed the parents are the more relaxed the child will be.
- Parents are encouraged not to come in the treatment room with their child, especially if they are nervous as well – children easily pick up on a parent’s anxiety.
